Teams range in age groups from 50+ to 75+. Among the teams scheduled to play on Saturday are eight medal winning teams from the 2022 National Senior Games.
The Kryptonite team, from Winter Springs, was the gold medalist at the 2022 National Senior Games in the 50+ Age Group, Division I, and went undefeated in six games. The 70+ and 75+ Golden Gals teams, from The Villages, were also gold medal winners.
Two teams, The Dream Catchers and Trail Blazers, featuring beginning softball players, will be playing with modified rules, that include taking swings at a ball on a tee if the player strikes out. This effort, an idea created by the Softball Sport Director, Avis Vaught, began at the 2021 Florida Senior Games Softball Qualifier, to give women a chance to play the game for the first time.
Also among this year’s teams are two men’s teams, playing in the 50+ Age Group. It’s the first time men’s teams have played in the Florida Senior Games since 2011.
While the softball qualifier is being held this weekend, the 2022 Florida Senior Games, presented by Humana, will be held December 3-11, in Florida’s Sports Coast/Pasco County with 23 sports being contested over nine days. Registration is now open for the 31st Annual Florida Senior Games and available at the individual sports pages of www.floridasenorgames.com.
