2026 Florida Senior Games, December 5-13, Florida's Sports Coast/Pasco County

If you’re a newcomer to the Florida Senior Games, you may not know about all the opportunities available to you at Florida’s only Olympic-Style Sports Festival for athlete age 50 and over.

It’s a three-step path from your hometown, or one close by, to a national event, the National Senior Games.

Here’s a tale of an athlete in the 60-64 age group.

Nick is a bowler in the Capital City Senior Games.  He won a bronze medal a few weeks ago as one of nearly 70 bowlers for men’s and women’s singles.

With his finish in the top five of the 60-64 age group in men’s singles bowling, he qualified for the Florida Senior Games in December in Florida’s Sports Coast/Pasco County.

The top five finishers in each age group qualified in bowling for the 2026 Florida Senior Games.

Because of Nick’s qualifying performance in singles, he also is eligible to compete in men’s and mixed doubles at the Florida Senior Games.

His qualifying performance was at one of 21 locations in the state hosting a Florida Senior Games Series Qualifier.  The locations literally span the peninsula from Pensacola to Miami.

The Capital City Senior Games sends a list of the qualifiers from the total of more than 800 athletes between February 25 and March 17.  Once received, the Florida Senior Games staff emails the qualifiers congratulating them and informing them of registration details.

Once registration opens, by September 1, Nick can register for all three bowling events if that’s his desire.  He can also register the “Open” sports that don’t require a qualifying performance.

Those sports include Archery, Basketball Shooting, Cycling, Horseshoes, Powerlifting, 5K Road Race, Power Walk and Shuffleboard. He could also join in one of the team sports, 3-on-3 Basketball, Softball or Volleyball.

Since Nick qualified at one of the 10 spring qualifying events, there’s 11 more Local Games events between September and November.  Just in case he wants to sharpen his game before December in Pasco County.

Once athletes register, they will receive periodic emails from the Games staff.  The Games website, www.floridaseniorgamescom will also be updated regularly between September and December.

To qualify for the 2027 National Senior Games, Nick will have to finish in the top four of his age group in bowling or an open sport to advance to Tulsa.  Sports with times and scores involved, there are minimum performance standards that allow qualification.

Once the Florida Senior Games are complete, results will be double checked and confirmed before submitting to the National Senior Games.  The National Senior Games staff will identify the qualifiers for the 2027 National Senior Games by sport qualifying standards.

Something Florida athletes need to know. Out of state athletes do not “bump” Florida athletes from qualifying.  If Nick finished fifth in his age group at the Florida Senior Games in men’s singles and a bowler from another state finished ahead of Nick, he still qualifies.

In somc sports with top finishers and minimum performance standards, there could be several other qualifiers other than the top finishers.

Once the Florida qualifiers are identified, they will receive notification from the National Senior Games with competition and registration information for the 2027 Games, June 30 – July 11, 2027, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Then it’s up to the athlete to complete their path from their hometown to the National event.  It’s a three-step process with Senior Games athletes from a variety of places, cheering you on and encouraging you, along the way.

It all starts now during National Senior Games Week, March 16 – 22, 2026.  Follow the Path and have fun along the way!
