2024 Florida Senior Games, presented by Humana, December, TBD, Florida's Sports Coast/Pasco County

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 2019 Florida Senior Games presented by Humana kick off this morning with the Cycling 5K Time Trials at Scott Park in Miami Gardens, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Riders will take off individually in one-minute intervals and will reach up to 30 miles per hour on the 3.1-mile course, as they race only against the clock.

Also bringing the Games to a start is a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, scheduled for noon at the City of Lauderdale Lakes Multipurpose Building. Among those in attendance to signal the start of the 28th Annual Florida Senior Games is Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Hazelle Rogers, Senator Perry Thurston, who represents the 33rd District, which includes Lauderdale Lakes, Florida Sports Foundation President and CEO Angela Suggs, and Ed Simon, Executive Vice President of the Greater Fort Lauderdale CVB.

Athletes can expect temperatures in the low 70s for the Cycling start time, under partly cloudy skies, and reaching 75 degrees by noon, with no chance of rain.

To close out the Opening Day of the 2019 Games, athletes, families, friends, and the surrounding community are invited to the Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Block Party in Lauderdale Lakes.  The event will take place beginning at 6 p.m. at the Samuel Brown Monument located at 3601 N. State Road 7. Live entertainment, music, a family fun zone, and food truck vendors will accompany the lightning ceremony.  For more information, click here.

The Games continue for athletes age 50 and over through Sunday, December 15, with approximately 1,500 athletes expected to compete in 24 sports.
