Florida Senior Games Athletes Represent at the Pan American Masters Games

Nearly 100 Florida athletes (96 total) competed in the 2024 Pan American Masters Game, held July 12-21, in Cleveland, Ohio. The Florida athletes ranged in age from 30 years old to 86 years old and competed in 19 of the 24 sports offered.

More than 4,000 athletes, from 70 countries and 47 states, competed in 24 medal-contending sports.

Some notable Florida Senior Games athletes made the journey to Cleveland to compete. Results are below.

Neville Brabrook, Altamonte Springs – Cycling, Table Tennis, Badminton
Won a bronze medal in Men’s Singles Table Tennis in the 80-84 age group

Linda Carty-Dumitrescu, Hollywood – Track and Field
Won a bronze medal in the Track and Field Triple Jump (20 feet, 4.75 inches) 55-59 age group

Madelaine “Tiny” Cazel, The Villages – Track and Field (Pictured at right with Avis Vaught)
Won Track and Field gold medals in the 85-89 age group in Javelin (51 feet, 5 inches); Discus (52 feet, 2 inches); Shot Put (18 feet, 10 inches); Long Jump (5 feet, 8.25 inches); 100 meter dash (27.75)
Cazel was one of only two track and field athletes to compete in the 85-89 age group, making her the elder stateswoman of the Pan American Masters Games Track and Field event. She was named the 2003 Florida Senior Games Female Athlete of the Year and holds 14 track and field records in four different age groups.

Dale Charrette, The Villages – Swimming
Won gold medals in the 100 butterfly (1:35.52) and the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relay. Won silver in the 50 Butterfly (34.60) and a bronze in the 200 freestyle (3:00.82)

John Disterdick, Windemere – Swimming Race, Athletics – Track and Field – Triathlon, Athletics – Road
Won a total of 10 medals in three different sports.
Won gold medal in the Swimming 80-84 age group in the 100 Free (1:45.60); 50 Free (40.71), silver in the 400 Free (9:20.83) and bronze in the 200 Free (4:20.73) and 50 Breast (1:21.53). Competed in four track and field events, winning a gold medal in the 80-84 age group Shot Put (30 feet, 2.25 inches) and silvers in the Long Jump (8 feet, 9.25 inches), High Jump (3 feet, 9.25 inches) and 800 meter run (4:14.84). Won a bronze medal in the Triathlon Sprint Distance 80-84 age group (2:03.17)

Linda Fulton, Celebration – Swimming (pictured at left)
Won gold medals in the 70-74 age group in the 200 Back (3:17.45); 50 Back (40.26); 50 Free (35.01); 50 Fly (39.59); 100 Back (1:29.80)
Fulton earned the 2022 Florida Senior Games Female Athlete of the Year Award and holds eight Florida Senior Games records in the 65-69 and 70-74 age groups.

Brian Hickey, Tallahassee – Track and Field, Triathlon
Won two silver medals in the 55-59 age group in the Olympic Distance Duathlon (2:29.16) and 3000m Steeplechase (15:17.94)
Hickey was the 2017 Sunshine State Games Male Athlete of the Year.

Tatyana Muntyan, Delray Beach – Archery
Won the gold medal in the Archery 50-54 age group, Recurve event
Muntyan is the Florida Senior Games Recurve record holder in the 50-54 age group.

Angie Olds, Melbourne – Archery
Won the bronze medal in the Archery 70-74 age group, Recurve event.
Olds is the Florida Senior Games Recurve record holder in the 55-59 and 65-69 age groups.

Tom Redpath, Boynton Beach – Cycling
Won a silver medal in the Cycling Time Trials with a time of 27:51

Michael Smith, Ruskin – Swimming
Won gold medals in the 65-69 age group in the 50 Fly (31.82); 50 Free (30.37); and the 200 Freestyle Relay. Won a bronze medal in the 50 Breast (38.17)
Smith holds five Florida Senior Games swimming records in the 60-64 and 65-69 age groups.

Avis Vaught, The Villages – Track and Field
Won gold medal in the 75-79 age group in the Javelin (63 feet, 11 inches); Long Jump (6 feet, 2.75 inches) and silver medals in the Hammer Throw (75 feet, 2 inches); Discus (58 feet, 0 inches) and Shot Put (25 feet, 10.25 inches)
Vaught was named the 2009 Florida Senior Games Female Athlete of the Year and holds four Track and Field records in the 65-69, 70-75 and 75-79 age groups
